With Matalan Sporting Promise in full swing, one school that has fully embraced and made the most of the Matalan TOP Sport programme is Roe Lee Park primary school near Blackburn.
The school was awarded a Recognition Award at the Youth Sport Trust’s 2012 Conference, for their achievements and commitment to high quality PE, through the use of Matalan TOP Sport.
As part of their PE lessons with Key Stage 2 pupils, teachers use the Matalan TOP Sport resource cards to the full, making sure all pupils know how to take part in the activity and understand what they are going to get out of their session.
Matalan TOP Sport resources are used not only for lesson planning and activity ideas, but also for cross-curricular reinforcement. Teachers at Roe Lee Park were particularly pleased by the addition of the questions on the cards, which have enhanced teaching delivery and planning.
The pupils have also fully embraced the programme too. Here’s what some of the pupils at Roe Lee Park had to say:
“I liked ‘Treasure hunt’ because I was thinking of the game so much I forgot how much I was out of breath and it lets me make my own rules up and make new games.”
“It’s healthy and makes my legs wobble in a good way.”
“I like the games and I take them home and share them with my friends.”
